Jugoplastika, Split

Jugoplastika was registered in 1952 as SOUR Kombinat Jugoplastika – a state-owned labor organization making plastic and textile products. Jugoplastika operated its facilities in several towns and cities in Dalmatia, as well as on Dalmatian islands (Sinj, Muć, Zadar, Makarska, Dubrovnik, Islands of Šolta, Vis and Hvar), manufacturing footwear, garments and different kinds of ware. The plant on Šolta produced toys and balls and exported their products to other European countries (USSR, Italy, Spain…).

Among other products, Jugoplastika was famous for their dolls – the fancy ones came in a box featuring the doll’s name and every little girl wanted to get at least one for her birthday.

In addition to dolls, Jugoplastika was a well-known manufacturer of rubber and plastic figures, especially those representing basketball and football clubs of former Yugoslavia. They made balls and other plastic toys as inevitable items of childhood in the second half of the 20th century.

In the 1990s, Jugoplastika’s production volumes began to drop rapidly. The factory was renamed to Diokom in 1993 and then shut down completely in 2007.
